                                    From the Pastor’s Desk

penance serviceWednesday evening (April 5th) at 7:00 p.m. will be our Penance Service for the season of Lent. As usual, extra priests will be available to assist us in celebrating this Sacrament of God’s Mercy for us sinners. I want to encourage you to join us. This will also be a good way to fulfill your Easter duty (confess any grave, i.e., mortal, sins in sacramental confession and receive Holy Communion during the Lent/Easter seasons).

If you need some assistance in the examination of conscience before going to confession, there is one on our parish app (you’ll find it when you click the icon for confession) that is based on the Ten Commandments and the precepts of the Church. Our bishops have several different examens based on your state in life on their web site [www.usccb.org/…/sacr…/penance/examinations-of-conscience.cfm]. Making a good examination of your conscience prior to going to confession is a good way of growing in the grace of the sacrament so you can “name” your sins to the priest-confessor.

Finally, I want to encourage families to join us for our Penance Service this week. For many of us, the majority of our sins are experience in our family – impatience, being unforgiving, anger and the like. Parents and adults can show children that we’re not perfect (nor arrogant) by humbly going to confession and being an example to them of the need to experience our Lord’s forgiveness.

Love,
Father Tom
