From the Pastor’s Desk

As the calendar turns to August, it’s Back to School time for many in our area. Public schools get started on August 10 while our Catholic schools start the following week on August 14th or 15th. The first day of school is an exciting time for many, especially for those who may not have seen their school friends during the summer. And, of course, there’s always the angst of first-day nerves and jitters for our littlest ones heading to school for the first time and there’s the scary thought of going to a new school, no matter what your age – “What’s this going to be like?” “Will I make new friends and, hopefully, as fast as possible?”

Adults can probably relate to all those experiences (and others since we already went through them) as we headed off to school to meet new challenges and, hopefully, be accepted. I know I did! While schools, as institutions, have tried to get better at helping our children transition better to a new environment, there’s still much to do in this regard. A little prayer never hurt (and tends to help much more)!

Loving God, Our Creator, our Savior, our Companion,

bless this journey of a new school year.

Refresh our souls and renew our spirits.

We welcome those who are new to this community

and ask that you strengthen them to share

the wonderful gifts you have given them.

Lord, make our hearts pure

as we get ready for the start of another school year.

May you guide, students and teachers alike,

to return with open hearts and minds eager to learn

and know the wonders of your Creation.

Amen.

Love,

Father Tom
