From the Pastor’s Desk

Several years ago I received a complimentary copy of the book Jesus is the Gift: The Spirituality of Advent & Christmas by Regis Flaherty. The book is still available on-line from the St. Paul Center. The author uses the biblical figures of the Advent and Christmas seasons to assist the reader into developing a spirituality for Advent and Christmas that unencumbers us from the secular world’s way of having us experience this time of year.

We firmly believe that our Lord wants a relationship with each of us and that this time of year can be a grace-filled opportunity to begin, renew or reclaim that relationship. Through the figures of John the Baptist and the Blessed Virgin Mary, the shepherds and the Magi, the stories of Advent and Christmas have a way of capturing our imaginations and leading us ever deeper into that sacred relationship with God.

The next several weeks will, no doubt, be hectic and very busy for many of us. However, that should not deter us from seeking God – for He is always seeking us! I pray that all of our families will enter into the blessed spirit of the Advent season and, through the celebrations of Christ’s Incarnation at Christmas, continue to experience the depths of God’s love.

Love,
Father Tom
