From the Pastor’s Desk

Several months ago a suggestion was made about moving some of the evening liturgies and meetings to an earlier hour. Following discussion with the Cathedral Parish Council, we will begin doing so in the coming months with holy day of obligations Masses, Vespers and the like that are held in the early evening.

So, beginning the evening Masses for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Vigil Mass (on August 14) and the evening Mass on the feast itself (August 15) will begin at 6:00 p.m. I realize that this is not going to be able to accommodate everyone. However, the two primary reasons for making the change are the following: (1) parking is easier in downtown St. Augustine at that hour and (2) there is better sunlight available at that hour (before daylight saving time concludes).

Please Note – This does NOT change our Saturday and Sunday evening Mass schedule. The Masses for those days remain at 5:00 p.m. (except on very solemn feasts such as Easter and Christmas).

We’ll do this for the next year on a trial basis and re-visit the decision later on if it is negatively impacting our families. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

 Love,
Father Tom
