Holy-Trinity1 (1)

A couple of months after his election as Bishop of Rome and Supreme Pontiff, Pope Francis gave an interview to a Catholic, Asian news correspondent in which he was asked to explain The Trinity. Francis responded:

The Holy Trinity is not the product of human reasoning. It is the face with which God revealed himself … by walking with humanity, in the history of the people of Israel, and above all in Jesus of Nazareth. It is Jesus who has saved us. Jesus is the Son who made us know the merciful Father and brought to the world his ‘fire’, the Holy Spirit, who guides us, who gives us good ideas, inspirations.

As the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity this Lord’s Day, our Holy Father’s words are certainly worth contemplating. The Trinity, we believe, is how God “revealed himself.” This revelation is a product of faith, i.e, how we come to know about God. Each Sunday we profess our belief in this mystery of One God and Three Persons.

Last year, Francis stated that our belief in the Trinity reminds us that “we are called to live… with one another, and in one another.” The Divine Community of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit teaches us how to live in the communities of our lives.

Love,

Father Tom
