From the Pastor’s Desk

We’ve all seen them — inspirational quotes in one form or another. When I was growing up, such quotes found their way onto posters and bookmarks. With the advent of an electronic culture, they abound in something called memes.

An ancient inspirational quote I first came across when I was in the seminary was this:

Faith is seeing light with your heart

when all your eyes see is darkness.

On this Easter Sunday, in the midst of very challenging times, our faith that Christ has triumphed over the darkest of all human enemies – death – must be very real for each of us. Even as our world faces this crisis, we have to find ways to allow our Christian faith to be renewed as well as to renew us.

Each day as I celebrate Mass and pray the Liturgy of the Hours, my first sentiment is to plead with God to be present to all of you – our families of the Cathedral Parish. Even in the darkness of this time, let faith’s light – the Light of Christ – shine in your hearts and lives.

On behalf of the clergy and the staff of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine, Blessed Easter!

Love,

Fr. Tom
