From the Pastor’s Desk

The beautiful and much-loved post-Resurrection account of the disciples on the road to Emmaus is the Gospel for this Third Sunday of Easter. It is also the Gospel proclaimed at Mass on the Wednesday after Easter Sunday. At his Mass that day at the Chapel in Domus Sanctæ Martæ, Pope Francis reminded us of God’s patient fidelity.

[The Lord] has patience with his people, listens to them, guides them, explains [to] them slowly and warms their hearts, as he did with these two disciples who were leaving Jerusalem….God’s fidelity always precedes us and our fidelity is always the answer to that fidelity that precedes us.

What an amazing reflection, as well as reminder to all of us, about God’s patience and fidelity toward us. It can be easy to grow despondent or become afraid in times such as these, but Christians should always take solace of the enduring care and compassion of God.

Love,

Fr. Tom
