Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Since this Solemnity falls on a Monday this year, it will not be observed as a Holy Day of Obligation.
To honor Our Blessed Mother on this special Feast, there will be a Mass at 6:00 p.m. in the Cathedral on Monday, August 15th, in addition to our 7:00 a.m. regularly scheduled Daily Mass. Please join us!
In 1950, in the Apostolic Constitution, Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII proclaimed the Assumption of Mary a dogma of the Catholic Church in these words: “The Immaculate Mother
of God, the ever-virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heaven.”
