From the Pastor’s Desk

“Announce it and let it be announced to the whole world,

that I set neither limit nor measure to my gifts of grace,

for those who seek them in my Heart.”

– Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

In 1675, a French nun who was a member of the Order of the Visitation, Margarita Mary, received an extraordinary revelation from the Lord Jesus. The promises that He made to her centered on devotion to the love that He had for all people from His Most Sacred Heart. The above quote comes from the diaries that she kept in which she recalled the words of Christ to her.

This past Friday the Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart. There are 12 promises that Jesus made to Margaret Mary, the most famous was the one that was made to those who would receive Holy Communion on nine consecutive First Fridays; they would not be without the grace of the Sacraments before dying. Popularly known as “The Great Promise” of devotion to the Sacred Heart, it presupposed the previous eleven promises, namely that one must who have a true devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Thus, the words of Jesus above become so important, “Announce it and let it be announced to the world….” True devotion to the great love of Jesus manifested in His Sacred Heart comes from life in which He is truly the focus and center of one’s life as well as family life. This love is also the heart of the Gospel and, therefore, at the center of the Church’s proclamation of God’s eternal love for all. In this month of June, let us renew our devotion to the love Jesus has shown, be moved to true repentance for our sins and announce His love in all we say and do.

Love,

Fr. Tom
