From the Pastor’s Desk

Beginning with the late afternoon and early evening Masses on Saturday, May 22, the general dispensation that has been in effect since March 2020 permitting Catholics in the Diocese of St. Augustine to be able to miss the celebration of Mass in person is being lifted.

However, everyone is reminded to stay home (1) if you are sick, (2) exhibit flu-like symptoms, (3) have had exposure to someone who has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus or (4) if you care for someone who is sick, homebound or infirm. As always, if through no fault of your own you are unable to get to Mass, no sin is incurred.

Concerning masks and face-coverings, we recommend that these be worn inside our buildings, especially when social distancing cannot be observed.

Also, concerning the reception of Holy Communion, Bishop Estevez has determined that the Blessed Sacrament may only be received on the hand.

In the months ahead, the Diocese of St. Augustine will evaluate this Phase One response and will issue further directives. Let us continue to be vigilant in ensuring each of us is doing everything possible to hinder any advancement of the COVID-19 virus as well as to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

Love,

Fr. Tom
