From the Pastor’s Desk

The fiftieth day of Easter – Pentecost!

In many ways this is my favorite feast of the Church’s liturgical calendar! In it we celebrate that the gift of the Holy Spirit has been poured out upon the Church so that it can give a courageous witness to the salvation Christ has won for all the world in His Cross and Resurrection. As Popes and Saints have said so often, in every age we must pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our time.

This prayer can be turned a little, however, to recognize that God is always sending His Spirit upon us. What is also needed are hearts that are fertile for the action of the Holy Spirit; lives that still need to go through that change – that metanoia – so the power of Christ can shine in every part of our lives; and, finally, a world that is open to the Gospel that manifests true freedom and justice, peace and compassion.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your Love.

Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Love,

Fr. Tom
