From the Pastor’s Desk

Today is the final Sunday of the Church’s Liturgical Year 2020. The Solemnity of Christ the King “crowns” all of the observances we have celebrated and observed since the First Sunday of Advent (way back on December 1, 2019). Through the various liturgical seasons, the solemn celebrations of Christ’s Nativity and the Paschal Mystery of His Passion, Death and Resurrection, the generous outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and the many times we have kept the memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints, all of this points us toward the Kingdom of God. So today’s festival of Christ, the King of the Universe sets up the goal of our life as disciples of Christ – His Kingdom, God’s Kingdom, is what we want to be able to attain when all is said and done.

The Gospel this Sunday – the Lord’s Day – is that famous scene painted in words and images by Jesus, the Great Day of Judgement and the separation of the sheep and goats. When we have Christ as the King of our life, our homes and every aspect of our lives, then we have nothing to fear as we await our God’s judgment. Living and practicing our faith each day, staying close to the Lord through the grace of the Sacraments. Specifically Penance and the Most Holy Eucharist, help us remain citizens of the Kingdom.

Let Christ be the true King of your hearts and homes; may he truly be the King of All Creation “that God may be all in all” (1 Corinthians 15:28).

Love,

Fr. Tom
