From the Pastor’s Desk

In 2012, the Holy See’s Congregation for Divine Worship granted the inclusion of a Feast in honor of Our Lady of La Leche on October 11 for the liturgical calendar of the Diocese of St. Augustine. This year, the Feast occurs on a Sunday and Bishop Estévez has asked that it be observed in the parishes of the Diocese thus replacing the liturgical texts for the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time.

As part of the Diocese’s 150th Anniversary, we were also planning to celebrate a unique occurrence — the canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of La Leche y Buen Parto by the Cardinal-Archbishop of Madrid on the feast day. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused this to be postponed until next year. In October 2021, Bishop Estévez will consecrate the Diocese of St. Augustine to the Virgin Mary under this title. This year, however, he is encouraging individuals and families to consecrate themselves on the Feast of Our Lady.

To prepare for a personal or family consecration, the Novena to Our Lady of La Leche might be prayed – either individually or as a family – beginning on Friday, October 3. Then, on Sunday, October 11, individuals and families wishing to pray the Prayer of Consecration will be given the opportunity to do so after each Mass.

Love,

Fr. Tom
