From the Pastor’s Desk
Following the celebrations of our Parish’s and City’s 450th Anniversary in 2015, as pastor I wanted to turn our parish’s attention to building our faith community. Having invested our financial gifts and much time and energy into the exterior and interior renovation of the Cathedral, I believed it was now time to put our efforts into building the church, that is, the true Church, the People of God and Mystical Body of Christ.
Along with the Cathedral Parish Council at the time, we determined that using a program called ALPHA was our best option. Why? Because ALPHA starts all of us at the beginning – asking who God is and how can I grow a relationship with God and His Son, Jesus Christ. In essence, the ALPHA process wants each person — regardless of how much they know about the faith or how committed they are to a faith – to start on the road of having a relationship with the All Holy One, the Almighty, God!
Over the course of a year now, our parish has had two ALPHA sessions in order to try them out, work out the kinks and ensure that as we now invite all of you in the parish to take part in ALPHA that it would be a great experience for you. This Sunday, at all the Masses, you’ll hear from some of the people who have participated in the pilot ALPHA groups in our parish. Their own witness will tell you how it has changed them and allowed them to form a renewed relationship with our Lord. I hope and pray that each of you will be open to taking part in ALPHA in the future. I firmly believe you will deepen your faith.
