From the Pastor’s Desk

Catholic education is not cheap and as the years go by, it becomes more and more of challenge to operate Catholic schools. While a few that are run by religious orders have endowments that keep them financially secure, the rest have to learn creative ways to stretch dollars in order to exist in today’s American society.

This has certainly become the case for the two schools our parish is responsible for – Cathedral Parish School and the Cathedral Parish Early Education Center. As has been noted to you in previous years, tuition does not cover all of the costs that are incurred in the education. This is where an event such as the Cathedral Festival comes in as well as other fund raisers that the schools conduct each year. While some operating costs are covered, the Festival continues to pay the loan for the 2008 construction/renovation project at Cathedral Parish School. Once that is paid from Festival proceeds, we try and use other money generated by the Festival for capital improvements or other “off budget” expenses.

One area that is becoming more difficult each year to fund would be the requests for financial assistance and scholarships from families who deeply desire a Catholic education for their children, but are unable to afford it. Would you consider a donation to assist these families? If you can, please contact Cathedral Parish School and ask to speak to our principal, Kathy Boice. Or, you can contact me and I will be happy to discuss this with you.

Love,

Father Tom
