From the Pastor’s Desk

First of all a HUGE THANKS to all who participated in last week’s Cathedral Gala and especially to the members of the Gala Committee. It was a great event!!! We pray as a community of faith that God will bless you for your efforts and generosity.

Today is the final Sunday of the 2017 Church’s liturgical year. This Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe celebrates the centrality of the spiritual Kingdom of God with Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords. Pope Pius XI established the feast in 1925 as a way of trying to battle the growing reality of secularism in the world. His papal motto, Pax Christi in Regno Christi (“The Peace of Christ In the Reign of Christ”) perfectly sums up his desire to place Christ and the message of the Gospel at the center of the hearts of every Christian.

Saint Paul in his Letter to the Philippians writes: “…at the name of Jesus, every knee must bow, in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess to the glory of God the Father: Jesus Christ is Lord!” As Lord, Christ is also King; as King he is to be the true and only ruler of our lives. The One who died for our salvation wants each of us to allow Him to rule our lives with His law of Love that leads to real peace, justice, freedom and charity. “May your kingdom come,” we pray in the Lord’s Prayer. Let us pray that it does!!!

Love,

Father Tom
