ENHANCING THE LITURGY
The Cathedral Music Ministry welcomes the participation of all people, singers and instrumentalists, who wish to share their musical gifts with the parish and Diocesan community by leading sung worship, enhancing the liturgical music of the assembly and diligently preparing sacred choral anthems for the edification of the assembly.
We have the following opportunities for service:
The 9:00 am. Mass Ensemble rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Rehearsal Room.
The Cathedral Choir (11:00 AM and 5:00 PM Masses) rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Choir Gallery of the Cathedral. This choir is also called upon to sing at Diocesan liturgies celebrated in the Cathedral.
Cantor Ministry: the Psalmist is the Cantor, who oftentimes has the role of song leader. Cantors rehearse for Mass at choir rehearsals or with the Director of Music or Cathedral Organist at other scheduled times. Cantors are scheduled well in advance for ministry at Cathedral Liturgies.
The Cathedral Children’s Choir is composed of Cathedral Parish young people from grades 3 through 12. The choir sings at the 9:00 AM Mass twice a month and rehearses in the Rehearsal Room on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
The Cathedral Women’s Schola, under the direction of Cathedral Organist Shannon McKay, sings unaccompanied chant and polyphony, in Latin and English, at selected liturgies. The Schola rehearses from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Thursdays at St. Benedict the Moor Church. All choirs and cantors come 45 minutes before Mass for "warm-up" and final details and instructions.
Instrumentalists: Instrumentalists: Brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion and keyboardists are welcome and needed in music ministry at the Cathedral. Rehearsals are usually with the choirs.
