FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Today we welcome Father Bart Gadaj, CSsR, as our parish’s new Parochial Vicar. The “CSsR” behind his name indicates that he is a member of the Redemptorists – the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer founded by Saint Alphonsus Ligouri in 1749. Over the next several Sundays he will be rotated through the Sunday Masses so most of you will be able to get to know him. Please make him welcome as a new member of our clergy staff and pray for him as he begins this new chapter of his ministry.

Of course, for many of us, this weekend and the next couple of days will be focused on celebrating our nation’s 241st Birthday. The 4th of July holiday is our opportunity to celebrate all things American. However, as I stated in last week’s bulletin, as Catholic Christians our first duty is to God and the building of His Kingdom. Therefore, I invite you to pray the following as our nation celebrates Independence Day this week:

Gracious and loving God, let your Spirit be with us always. Hear our prayers, and increase in us the will to follow your Son Jesus each day. Help us to draw on the resources of our faith as we use the opportunities of our democracy to shape a society more respectful of the life, dignity, and rights of the human person, especially the poor and most vulnerable.Through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.  Amen.

Love, Father Tom
