From the Pastor’s Desk
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
[Revelation 22: 13]
These are words of Jesus, reigning from His heavenly throne, at the conclusion of the Book of Revelation. He says he is the “Alpha and Omega” – the first and the last letters of the Greek alphabet. It is a way for our Lord, the Christ, to indicate that He is everything we could ever hope or imagine to be a divine blessing.
Today we begin sign-ups for another session of a program called Alpha. It is, in essence, a beginning – maybe a new beginning for some – so that they faith in Christ can be found, renewed, restored. After much prayerful reflection and thought, our Parish Council recommended Alpha as a way to start parish renewal by pointing people to the Way, Jesus Christ.
Alpha is built upon people who are searching and want to find a deeper relationship with Christ. So often that yearning of the heart is not found in books; rather, it’s manifested in the conversations that we have with other people of faith, others who are searching for the true meaning of life as God desires it for His Creation. Alpha is a first step, though. It is not intended as the “be all and end all” of our quest. That comes from continuing to develop a relationship with our Lord in His Church.
I prayerfully hope that you will consider taking part in Alpha in our parish. Small groups will begin right after Easter. Sign-ups are outside of church today after Mass.
