From the Pastor’s Desk

Today begins Holy Week – a time when Christian churches would normally be packed as we celebrate the
central events of our faith – the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ. However, in these days being impacted
by the necessary precautions to lessen the spread of the COVID_19 virus, this week and its observances will be very
different.
I want to encourage you and your family to celebrate the liturgies of this week with us at the Cathedral
Basilica of Saint Augustine as we livestream on our Facebook page. (Spread the word that these liturgies are
available, as well!) Sunday through Wednesday, Mass will be at 8:00 a.m. On Holy Thursday the Mass of the Lord’s
Supper will take place at 6:00 p.m. The Celebration of our Lord’s Passion on Good Friday will take place at 3:00
p.m. The Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 8:30 p.m. and on Easter Sunday Mass will again be at 8:00 a.m.
Given the unique circumstances we find ourselves in, the Vatican has issued guidelines for parishes to
follow in the celebration of the liturgies of Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum. While we won’t have the fullness of
what the Sacred Liturgy usually offers for these days, maybe it will help to increase our longing for all of it next
year!

Love,
Fr. Tom
