From the Pastor’s Desk

Next Sunday, Dominican Father Bill Garrott will be here to preach at all Masses and to encourage your participation in our Parish Mission. Father Bill was with us in 2016 and I am excited to welcome him back for this Mission, especially in these challenging times. His theme will be — “Christ-Lock: Identity Theft No Longer!” Mission services will be at 7:00 p.m. each night in the Cathedral and will be live-streamed on our Facebook and You Tube channels. Fr. Bill will also hear confessions each evening following the service.

We are now less than a month from the 36th Annual Cathedral Festival – February 26-28 – on the grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche. Please make sure you help in the overall success of the Festival, which supports Cathedral Parish School, by purchasing the Raffle tickets that were mailed to you in early January. The Raffle is one of the biggest proceeds for the Festival.

Also, the beginning of Lent – Ash Wednesday – is not that far away. Next Sunday we will have the list of services for Ash Wednesday in the bulletin and on our various social media outlets. Know that the way in which you receive blessed ashes will be different this year due to the pandemic. Instead of tracing the ashes on your forehead, this year, by direction of the Holy See, the minister will simply sprinkle ashes on the top of your head. This has been the customary manner ashes are given in Europe for centuries.

As we continue to make our way in this challenging times, know of my continued prayers for all of the families of the Cathedral Parish.

Love,

Fr. Tom
