From the Pastor’s Desk

In a few weeks, on the weekend of December 5-6, the annual national collection for the Retirement Fund for Retired Religious will be taken up. Last year in the Diocese of St. Augustine, the collection garnered over $138,000.00.

Our parish has a long history of having the Sisters of St. Joseph among us. Their primary ministry was teaching at Saint Joseph Academy, Cathedral Parish School as well as Saint Agnes School in North City (before it became the Early Education Center). The Sisters have also been active in parish ministries, especially in visiting the sick and homebound, as well as in many other areas. The Cathedral Parish has certainly been blessed by our collaborative efforts with the Sisters of St. Joseph in proclaiming and living the Gospel of Jesus.

This annual collection helps a severely underfunded aspect of Church life: for so long religious communities worked for a mere pittance on what they should have been paid. Now, especially as medical costs have skyrocketed, they need our help in order to pay their bills. Your generosity to the Retirement Fund for Retired Religious will show our appreciation for their commitment to us. Those who use the monthly envelope packets will have an envelope to use for this collection. If you use Faith Direct, make sure you designate a donation for this collection by logging into your account.

Also, today is the last day to complete the Disciple Maker Index Survey. If you haven’t already taken it, please take a few minutes of your time to do so. Your participation will assist parish leadership in pastoral planning for the years ahead.

Love,

Fr. Tom
