From the Pastor’s Desk

In Saint Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Sun, we find this saint’s desire for everyone to know the blessings of God that are found in the beauty of the created world. In
the English language the prayer has been set to music in such popular sacred hymns as “All Creatures of Our God and King” and the more recent “Canticle of the Sun.”
For Saint Francis, creation is God’s gift to us – man and woman, the crown of all creation. As such, keeping the biblical precept in the Book of Genesis, humanity is
called to be “stewards” of the created world.

Today on Saint Francis’ feast day, the Season of Creation comes to a close. These past five weeks have been an invitation to learn ways each of us can be better stewards of creation.
The 13th century Franciscan theologian, Saint Bonaventure, in his biography on the saint of Assisi wrote:
Francis sought occasion to love God in everything…. In everything beautiful, he saw Him who is
beauty itself, and he followed his Beloved everywhere by His likeness imprinted in creation; of all
creation He made a ladder by which he might mount up and embrace Him who is all-desirable.

Our parish’s Creation Care Ministry is hosting a webinar tonight (Sunday) by Timothy Johnson, Ph.D. I hope you will take advantage of this so that each of us can discover ways to care for God’s creation and glorify Him who is our Creator.

Love,

Father Tom
